I ran my 10th Blue Nose race this past weekend and my second in close proximity to the birth of a child. This year: 10km nine weeks after the birth of our son.
I sat down to capture some of my favourite moments of the weekend and the silly anecdote that wanted to be written actually has nothing to do with running.
Regarding the running- I loved my race. My body lost less than I thought after a 7 month lay off. I loved having my sisters in town. Completing the 2km youth run with my 2 year old daughter was one of my greatest running joys to date. I was thrilled to run with some of my original running partners, Gina and Debbie.
But what wants to be captured is this ridiculous new parenting… word.
As prelude, in this crazy newborn period, my husband (and more recently sister who stayed here x 2 weeks) is always telling me to get my shit together:
- stop leaving your wallet in the yard
- stop leaving refrigerated items on counter
- stop putting non-refrigerated items in refrigerator
- take all of the groceries inside, i.e. do not the milk perched on the patio bannister
- always know where the stroller is
- stop hesitating when strangers ask if baby is boy or girl
- stop using the wrong word such as pizza instead of dad
- stop calling daughter by sister’s name
- etc
I keep saying that I simply can’t get my shit together until this baby and I start sleeping 4 hours in a row at night.
Anyhow, whilst not having my shit together nor proper command of the English language, the new word that I accidentally coined on the way home from the race while checking with husband with our kids is “boof”: a combination of barf and poop. Both of which explode out of my son on a regular basis.
This is what provided my sisters and I with the greatest laughs of race weekend.
There continues to be a large quantity of boof in my house. And laundry.
The streamlined “boof” might come in handy in your every day life.
You’re welcome.
And if you know where I live, please don’t touch the wallet in the yard.
AND huge congrats to my sister who had a big PB in her second half marathon. And my other sister who ran the same time for 10km as last year despite not training.
