About Janet
My name is Janet and I love running.
Running has been a part of my life since elementary school days, growing up in Dartmouth. My physical education teacher encouraged me to run and gave me the opportunity to discover what would become a lifelong passion.
My roots began on the track and where I was competitive with the top runners in Nova Scotia. I did occasional road racing during those early years, winning the Dartmouth Natal Day 2 Mile Road Race at age 15. I enjoyed running varsity cross-country while attending Dalhousie University.
Under the coaching guidance of the late Cliff Matthews, I shifted my love of running from the track to road racing. My personal bests include a 5:04 mile, 17:56 in the 5k and 36:24 in the 10k. I am a former winner of the Timex Atlantic Road Racing Series and a 5-time female winner of the Dartmouth Natal Day 6 Mile Road Race. My personal best time of 35:42 was the course record for 16 years and would still rank me as one of the top three Nova Scotia women for that distance.
Wanting to share my love of the sport with others, I volunteered with the Youth Running Series and for 10 years as a coach with youth in elementary and junior high schools. I have completed NCCP coaching courses in Athletics and Distance Running.
Running is also a family affair. My husband has been involved as a runner, race director and coach and my two sons grew up with running sneakers on.
I know firsthand how exciting it is to set personal goals, train, race and go after those PB’s. I love running and racing. I have weathered the challenges and celebrated achievements; it’s all part of the joy of the journey. We have a vibrant running community and I love supporting other women to be part of it.
I would love to meet you and hear about your goals and offer you support on your journey to your next personal achievement or PB.
