“Be the Winter Storm” Winter Warrior Virtual Challenge

Hey Love Training More team,

Well 2020 was quite the year!

As Covid-19 spread around the world and into our communities, we saw our racing year turned upside down. Most of our race events were either cancelled or turned into a virtual race for solo running. For many of you this has meant no pace bunnies, no cheers from the sideline, no chance to feel that contagious energy and excitement at the start line nor sharing our celebratory post-race victory stories.

It has been solo effort, just you and the road.

Yet many of you prevailed despite these restrictions. We saw determined runners maintaining their training programs. We saw runners trying out new distances in our Track Inspired Summer Series. We saw runners successfully achieving personal goals. We saw new PB’s achieved. We saw runners completing their first marathon and ultra- marathons. You have inspired us with your tenacity and resilience!

Resiliency!

Now as we near the end of the first winter month of 2021, and feel the cold, winter months setting in, how are you feeling?

What’s in your thought bubble?

Are you saying, “I’m so done with the virtual racing.” or “I’m making no commitments until things are back to normal again.”

We know running in the winter can be challenging, even under the best circumstances. Dark, cold, slippery, it is not always easy to get out there. Throw in the pandemic, social restrictions, and job changes and insecurity, even more so.

Yet we know that just getting out the door and logging some time on your feet will have tremendous benefits both now and later on.

Winter is the best time to build your aerobic base and set up that important foundation for building your spring speed and endurance. It will help you maintain all those fitness gains you made this year and allow
you to make even more gains and improvements next year. If not in a spring race event, hopefully by summer or fall.

We also know that this pandemic has taken a toll on the mental and physical well-being of many. One of the best things we can do to boost our immune system and help relieve some of our stress is to stay active. With this in mind, your LTM Coaches have come up with a fun way to help us all get through this winter together.

We would like to announce our roll out of:

Be the Storm Winter Warrior Virtual Challenge

This virtual challenge will run for the months of February and March. At the end of each month we will randomly draw two winners for some free swag.

You will have a chance to earn virtual ballots for doing some things like:

  • post 4 smiling winter running or x-training photos to the facebook page(in 4 separate posts!)
  • running a new weekly mileage PB
  • running a new PB
  • setting a new strength-streak of 3 strength sessions (min. 15 minutes) per week x 3 week
  • running a new track event
  • posting 3 mantras that you used to help you power through a workout or run (in 3 separate posts)
  • create a piece of “Strava Art”
  • participating in the Love Freezing More race event on Saturday, March 7 which will include 1 mile, 5km or a 10km option. Depending on public health restrictions on March 7, we are hopeful that this will be a blend of in-person and virtual
